Damseaux's Conquest Turbo at Franschhoek Concours and Time Trial

The first Franschhoek Motor Museum Concours Time Trial took place at L'Ormarins wine estate over the weekend of 27 and 28 February 2010.
This prestigious event took place amidst the most beautiful mountains in the country and the who’s who of South Africa’s racing driver took part incl. Sarel van der Merwe, Ian Scheckter, Peter Lindenberg and Willie Hepburn to mention a few. And the cars that participated included Porsche 911 Turbo’s, Ford GT’s, Ferrari 430’s and ex Le Mans cars.
The 3km course was mapped out with bales and speeds of around 200km/h were reached by some participants.
Serge Damseaux, multiple rally champion, also participated in the legendary ’87 Conquest 4x4 Turbo (Check out my report on this beast in a previous article). Serge finishes in an overall 11th place with a time 2,11.95 of in front of the likes of Ford 350GT's and Ferrari 308's out of a pack of 50 cars. Not bad for 23 year old car!
Check out the full article on this event in the April 2010 edition of Car magazine and their website (Carmag.co.za). Also take a look at Franschhoek Motor Museum’s website at FMM.co.za for more info on the coveted event.
